How to Organize Your Garage
Do you have a two-car garage and cannot remember the last time that you were able to park your car in it? When you open your garage to find something do you find yourself vowing that you are going to finally spend some time organizing it? Well, then today is the day. It is time to form a plan and put it into action in order to get your garage organized. There are 3 steps involved in reorganizing your garage. These are: clean out your garage; put everything together; and use storage accessories.
The first step in organizing your garage is to clean it out completely. In order to do this you will need to take everything and place it outside. If you think that you are going to have to water down the floor you should remember to temporarily store the items away from your garage’s entrance.
Once everything is out of your garage you will be able to evaluate everything that was in there and decide what you will and will not need. Once you have made a pile of things that you want to keep and a pile of things that you want to get rid of it is time to take those items that you want to get rid of to the dump, have a garage sale or give them away to a non-profit store. Of course you should also group together the items that you are going to keep according to their use. You will see how some items naturally fit together.
After this has been done, it is time to clean your garage. In order to clean your garage you will need to sweep the floor, dust and then water down the cement floor.
Once you have done all of these things it will be time to place everything back inside of your garage. There are various organizing accessories available to help you here. For instance, a pegboard can be mounted on the wall to store your tools and keep them located in one specific area. You can also purchase large plastic tub containers to hold seasonal clothing and items like holiday decorations, camping supplies etc. Another thing that you could do is anchor shelving to the wall or purchase and build a strong cabinet in which you can neatly store your items.
While you are going through this process, you should remind yourself of why you are cleaning out your garage. You are not only doing this for organizational reasons, but you are also doing this so that you have room to park your car inside the garage. So, when you are organizing your garage you should be sure that you keep this important factor in mind so that you can leave enough room available to park your car inside of the garage.
