Garage Door

Two years ago you decided to remodel your home. You decided to install new kitchen cabinets, countertops and put in new appliances. Over this time you have remodeled your bathroom. You put in a beautiful new pedestal sink, a matching toilet and a whirlpool bath. These are nicely accented with soft yellow ceramic tile. Now you think that it is time to install a new garage door. Your old garage door was made of heavy metal. This broke your garage door opener and so you want to replace it with a sectional garage door.

A lot of this work can be done yourself and thus you can fulfill your remodeling dreams. This will also save you money because you will not have to pay for labor. With this in mind, you have also decided to install your own garage door.

All do-it-yourself home remodeling work should be done carefully because you will want to follow the detailed instructions. This is also true whenever you purchase a sectional garage door to install. One thing that the instructions may not tell you though is that if your old garage door used tension springs to help with opening and closing it, then you should leave these attached. If you do decide to remove them, you should not do this job without someone to help you.

When you begin putting your sectional garage door together you should piece it together using the bottom sectional piece as the base. You can affix this piece to the garage entrance jam at such an angle that the bottom piece is wedged firmly into place and allows for the next piece to be attached.

The next thing that you will want to do is begin to assemble the track portion of the garage door. This is the portion that allows for the rollers to move through the track when opening and closing the door. Once the tracks have been assembled you can start to attach the rollers and the other pieces of hardware to the base section. Once you have done this you can insert one of the bottom sections into the track by inserting the rollers of the bottom door section. After doing this for the one side, you will have to do it for the other side too.

This is the end of the first section of the garage door and it is now time to do the second section of the garage door. You are going to need some help here to lift this section into place. It should be placed into the vertical tracks by inserting the rollers. Make sure that both sides of the second piece are inserted.

It is now important to affix the hinges of the bottom section to the section on top of it. After doing so you simply need to repeat the process of installing the second section by placing the third section on top of the second. Make sure that you securely fasten the tracks to the frame using the mounting plates as hardware. You also need to make sure that you attach the securing brackets to the tracks by fastening them to the wooden frame of the door opening.

Continue to follow this process when you attach the overhead tracks that are curved as well as the tracks that run horizontal to the floor of the garage. You should attach the horizontal track to the support brackets that have been fastened to a portion of the garage’s wood frame located in the ceiling. Once you have installed the horizontal tracking you should make sure that it is level.

The last thing that you will need to do, after you are sure that you are satisfied with the installation and that the door opens and closes properly, is to retighten all of the bolts, screws and fasteners.
